Starting from the academic year 2016-2017, prospective students should apply for admission to the Industrial Engineering (IE) undergraduate program Universitas Andalas through three types of university admission as applied to all state university in Indonesia. Currently, the first type is called SNBP where high school students are evaluated based on their three-year academic performance in school. The second is called SNBT, an Indonesian national exam for university entrance. Both admission processes are organized by a National Committee of each admission process (National Committee for SNBP and National Committee for SNBT), which is formed by the Assembly Rectors of Public Institutes and Universities of Indonesia (MRPTNI).
